How to care for and clean a Vellux blanket
There is no doubt that almost all blankets are warm but a very few of them are actually able to provide comfort and relaxation. Vellux blankets are surely better as they are comfortable, fluffy, warm, soft and lightweight. They are so light weight, soft and velvety that people sleep a lot more comfortably while using them. They are available in various sizes including Vellux blanket king and Vellux blanket queen sizes.
Vellux blankets are hypo-allergenic which means that they are best for people who are allergic to most materials. It is for this very reason that Vellux blankets are used in almost all the hotels while the public demand for these blankets is rising with every passing minute.
Most people remain confused as to what is the best way to handle these soft and velvety blankets. Some people feel that washing them will make them harder and will make them lose their velvetiness while some people believe that these blankets are not machine washable and should be sent to the dry cleaners. Some believe that specifically the Vellux blanket King and Vellux blanket queen aren’t machine washable due to their relatively bigger size.
These are some of the misconceptions which lead to mishandling of the Vellux blanket and dent its durability. Here are some tips which will help you in handling and cleaning Vellux blanket with ease.
Machine Wash Vellux blankets every six months at least
Vellux blankets are machine washable so there is no need to dry clean the blankets. The blanket must be washed every few months while you must wash it at least twice a year or once every six months. Opposite to popular belief that the blanket would lose its softness after getting washed, washing actually makes the blanket softer. The more you wash the blanket the softer it will get; however, it doesn’t mean that you should start washing it every other day. Just try to wash it whenever you feel that it needs to be cleaned. If it is constantly used then washing it after 3-4 months and if it is used sparingly then washing the Vellux blanket after every 6 months is recommended.
Use liquid fabric cleaners or use dissolved washing powder
Its best to use dissolved washing powder or liquid fabric cleaners in order to wash the Vellux blanket. The precaution is valid while cleaning any blanket as it ensures that the blanket doesn’t get harder at all. Most people prefer to dissolve the washing powder before washing the blanket but you can also try liquid fabric cleaners to clean your Vellux blanket. Moreover, there is no need to use a fabric softener for Vellux blanket as it becomes softer after each wash itself!
Don’t keep Vellux in a plastic bag
Most people pack the blanket away in a plastic bag when not in use. This is not the proper way to handle Vellux blanket. In order to let the blanket retain its plush and softness, you must actually keep it in a cupboard. You can wrap the blanket with a dry-cleaning tissue before placing it in a cupboard in order to keep it protected from dust etc but this is all the precaution that you need to take while keeping it away in a cupboard!
If you can follow these tips then you won’t have any problems in handling and cleaning these velvety and soft blankets!
